Types of Travel Photos Not to Forget to Take
Whether you stick to the old fashioned photo album, keep them stored on your laptop, or get creative and scrapbook your snaps, holiday photos are what bring back memories of fun in the sun, or the ice, or whatever guise your holiday took!
You should try and mix up your shots a little; it will get boring if all you have are pictures of the sea, as beautiful as it is. These are the photos you should try and take:
1. Photos with just you in them
Travelling with your friends? Your boyfriend? What if you split up with your boyfriend, or you fall out with your friend? If the only photos you take are of the two of you together, then you’re not going to want to relive those holiday memories. Mix it up a little, and then at least you’ll have some happier memories, ones that don’t pain you to look at.
2. Photos with everyone in them, including you
Group photos are the ones that make me smile the most, because it reminds of the people I met, new and old, and those close to me and who shared the experience. If you stick to one person taking the photos, then the poor designated photographer won’t be in any of them, and it won’t look like they ever went on holiday! Share photography duties, and get some poor unsuspecting passer-by to take a full group shot or two.
If you’re doing the solo travel thing, invest in a tripod and learn how to use the timer on your camera. Also, don’t be afraid to ask others to take photos of you either, you’ll often find that most people suddenly turn all pro photographer once you ask them to take a snap! Also, get down with the selfie, you can’t beat a bit of posing!
3. Photos of you with the main attractions in the background
If you’re heading off somewhere with a famous attraction, such as Paris and the Eiffel Tower, or Sydney and the Opera House, try and get a photo of you with this in the background. This will make for great memories, and you can say “I was there”. Try and get a few that are serious and a few that are funny too, just for prosperity’s sake.
4. “Jumping” shots
A mid-air jumping shot is fun, you can’t argue with it, and an action photo will always make you smile more than standing still with a model-esque pose. It might take a few false starts before you get the perfect photo, but at least you’ll have a laugh whilst attempting it!
5. Photos of your food
Not for everyone, I’ll admit, but I love taking photos of food that makes my mouth water! Memories again, and food is a powerful memory-jogger, but also so I can remember them and try and re-create them when I get home. If you’re scoffing pasta in Italy, you have to take a snap to remember it by!
6. The obligatory sunset
For me, this is the ultimate travel photograph, and I don’t think you can beat a good sunset shot. Usually over the sea, that’s my favourite sunset, but come on, who hasn’t done this and then pulled it through Istagram a few times? Natural beauty should be captured, so if you see something that makes your jaw-drop, freeze it in time for your memory bank.
Some people get a bit embarrassed taking photographs, however I am not of that thought process, I love them, and so should you. Invest in a good camera, or learn how to use yours properly – you won’t regret it!
Hahaha. I have forgotten to take many of these. I really hate taking photos so it’s hard to take time out from seeing things to stop and think about photos.
