Things to Do in Perth, a few suggestions …

Perth is a huge city, set in beautiful Western Australia. The problem with huge cities is that you just don’t know where to start first when it comes to figuring out what the heck you’re going to do with your time there.

Shopping, dining, shows, walking – your usual city activities are of course on offer, but for something a bit different, what can you do? There are countless more than I can talk about, but here’s just a few suggestions to get you started.

Free city walking tour – Walking is the best way to see a city, don’t you agree? The good thing about this particular set up is that a) it’s free, and b) you can just join in when you want, and leave if you’re bored. Generally beginning at Murray Street Mall, this is run by volunteers, who will happily give you a bit of inside information on what you’re passing, and the history of it. A good way to get around and see the main city sights in one go, freeing you up to go a little further with the rest of your time.

Cottesloe Beach – Within very easy reach of city centre, you can be transported to white sand, paradise beaches. For an escape from the city for a few hours, you can swim, snorkel, surf, and simply kick back and relax.  Fancy a drink? There are plentiful quaint cafes to sit and admire the beauty. Bliss!

King’s Park – Most large cities these days have a green area, and Perth’s version is the large and varied King’s Park. This is probably one of the must-visits within the city, and it is home to stunning city views, and of the famous Swan River, as well as housing botanical gardens. Best news? It’s free!

Little Creatures Brewery –  Beer tasting? Sounds like a plan! Head down to the harbour for a free tour of the brewery, sampling production and learning how it’s made.

Learn to play the didgeridoo – Perth is home to the country’s biggest didgeridoo store, and they offer lessons too. This is probably just too good an opportunity to miss! The store itself is worth a walk around, regardless of whether you learn to play or not.

Western Australia Museum – I personally think it would be ignorant to visit any destination and not attempt to learn something about its history, and for that reason I’d recommend a visit to this particular museum. Not only will you pick up some handy facts about the history of the area, but you’ll also be treated to a huge collection of aboriginal artefacts to see.

Opel Moonlight Cinema – Think the outdoor cinema on Grease, but without the cars. This is a really different activity, and a chilled out one at that. Watch a film, sat on the grass (or hire a beanbag), with your own picnic. The only tip is to get there early, so you can bag a good spot where you can easily see the screen.

Perth Zoo – Learn about the natural habitat of the region, the wildlife that call it home, as well as some huge animals to stand in awe of. Conservation will thank you for your visit too, with money going towards efforts.

Just a few suggestions of different kinds of activities you can go whilst you’re in Perth. Obviously, the usual city activities have to be done too – you know the kind – fancy meals, nights out, spa treatments (if that grabs your fancy), and retail therapy in abundance, but Perth offers much more than that, and is also set within a beautiful natural setting.

Logistics

Air Asia have some awesome specials to Perth from Asia. Other than that option, getting to Perth is likely to be a bit expensive given how far it is from everywhere else. Once you’re in Perth, stay somewhere central if you’re not hiring a car. Ibis and Formula 1 are some lower cost hotel chains. Perth is worth the expense but you’ll need to budget accordingly and expect to pay more for everything from food to transport.
