5 Ways to Get Free Travel
Being a travel addict can be an expensive situation. There are lots of tricks that experienced travelers learn to reduce their expenses while traveling. I certainly travel far better, but cheaper overall, than I did when I first started traveling, because now I know how to save money without sacrificing comfort. However, there are at least a few ways to get completely free travel accommodation. That’s right I said, free. Here are five of them.
1. Housesit
Know someone who is heading away? Often people feel better when their home is occupied while they’re away. Why not volunteer to housesit if you know someone who is going off on their own travels and will be leaving an empty apartment.
2. Borrow someone’s holiday house.
If you’ve got a big extended family, chances are you have someone in your family who has a holiday house. Even if they rent it, there might be some times when it’s not rented and they’re happy for you to use it e.g., during the off season or midweek. You might even be able to do a key handover for them if they have renters arriving at the end of your stay.
3. Apartment swap.
Especially if you live in London, you will have no issues at all with finding a million people who want to do an apartment swap with you. Apartment swaps can be just for a few days or a few weeks. If you don’t live in London, don’t be put off. For example, if you live in Brighton or another place Londoners want to go for the weekend, you will have no issues finding someone to swap with in London for a cheap weekend. Much better than paying for a hotel and you’ll get to explore a real London neighborhood. Paris is a great option for apartment swapping.
4. Travel with parents.
If you go somewhere where with your parents, chances are they will pick up at least the hotel bill. A bit cheeky I know, but of course you want quality time with your parental units. If your Mum has always wanted to go to ….. (city), why not encourage a Mother-Daughter bonding weekend. Sometimes parents feel intimated to travel alone or wouldn’t think of traveling without their spouse. A little encouragement and the offer to go with can fix this though!
5. Enter competitions.
Sometimes people think it’s pointless to enter competitions because “you’ll never win” but I know SOOO many people who have won travel competitions. I know someone who just won an all expenses paid trip to Hawaii for a week!
